John’s epistles are nestled towards the back of the entire Bible. These epistles show us the affectionate care of an elder for a flock he dearly loved. As Augustine said about 1 John, “This book is very sweet to every healthy Christian heart that savors the bread of God, and it should constantly be in the mind of God’s holy church.”

Throughout these three epistles, the apostle writes about love and obedience. One cannot love God and be disobedient to His commands. There is a beautiful and sweet connection between those loved by Christ and those who live holy lives.
